The weeklong (March 2nd-6th) National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) celebration in Pasco County featured activities intended to get school-aged children excited about breakfast. This year’s nationwide theme was ‘Make the grade with school breakfast’, highlighting the importance of consuming a nutritious breakfast daily and promoting school breakfast as a healthy option for kids. Many of the local elementary schools showed their spirit with a Superhero-themed breakfast, emphasizing the need for a balanced breakfast to bring out the super powers in all of us.

Spiderman and Spidergirl came to West Zephyrhills Elementary to power-up with a nutritious breakfast.
Other creative activities to promote NSBW included coloring contests at several of the elementary schools, a peanut butter and jelly drive, and a National Happy Day celebration.
According to the School Nutrition Association, 96% of members said they had increased participation in school breakfast during NSBW. During their day of promotion at Richey Elementary, participation increased from the typical 274 students consuming breakfast, to a record 353 students eating breakfast. Incorporating a nutritious breakfast meal in the morning can help kids achieve success in the classroom and beyond!
