HUSSC

Congratulations to the following four schools in our district who recently won the HealthierUS School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms Award:

  • Chasco Elementary School (Silver)
  • Fox Hollow Elementary School (Silver)
  • New River Elementary School (Silver)
  • Thomas E. Weightman Middle School (Bronze)

The Healthier US School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms (HUSSC) initiative is a voluntary certification/recognition program founded out of the Lets Move! Campaign started by Michelle Obama back in 2010. The main goal of the HUSSC initiative is to recognize Team Nutrition schools that have created and maintained healthy school environments through both physical activity and nutrition & wellness programs. Depending on how involved the schools are and other various criteria, they are eligible to be deemed either Bronze, Silver, Gold or Gold Award of Distinction schools. Schools have a checklist of 100 different statements in 6 different categories and are required to comply with at least 30 of them in order to be eligible for a bronze distinction (50 for silver and 70 for gold).

Congratulations again to the winning schools! Keep up the great work and we hope to see the list of Pasco County School winners increase each year!
