Do you have spirit!? Pasco County Schools do! This year for National School Lunch Week we had many participants in our celebration. Our goal, like every year, is to increase our participation in the school lunch program, while getting the students excited. Each school did something special ranging from a talented guest Chef, cheerful mascots, influential legislative speakers, and local heroes.
Healthy food education was encompassed in the schools events. At Marlowe Elementary School “Ms. Carrot” visited at lunchtime to display the importance of eating vegetables. Chef Ray Benton promoted taste testing with salads featured on an inflatable football field. Kids who chose the salad were rewarded with a sticker. Even Jeannine Timmons, Legislative Assistant to State Representative Amanda Murphy, participated in crazy sock day while having one on one conversations with the kids about healthy eating!
Pasco Middle School, Centennial Middle School and Wiregrass Ranch High School were given a Fitbit to reward students who purchased reimbursable meals that week. With each purchase they were entered into a drawing. There was potential for each student to be entered five times!
