earth-day-cover-photoHappy Wellness Wednesday! This Friday, April 22nd is the 46th anniversary of Earth Day! According to earthday.org, the Earth Day Network’s mission aims “to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations.” Over one billion people now celebrate and participate in Earth Day worldwide in approximately 192 countries. Earth Day Network is responsible for numerous achievements. Through “The Canopy Project” they have been able to plant millions of trees throughout 32 countries. EDN also helped establish and implement the Green Ribbon Schools Program which is a federal program that recognizes schools for the positive “green impact” on the Earth. In addition, EDN also focuses on engaging with young adults by encouraging them to become registered voters. During the 2009 Earth Day, over 230 voter registration initiatives were organized on various college campuses throughout the United States. Earth Day also focuses on sustainability and initiatives such as Farm to Fork. For this years Earth Day, Pasco County Schools will offer fresh strawberries on the menu that were grown locally.
