On Tuesday, June 7th four schools were recognized at the monthly Board Meeting for Pasco County Schools for their hard work and dedication in attaining awards for the Healthier U.S. School Challenge. The Healthier US School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms (HUSSC) initiative is a voluntary certification/recognition program founded out of the Lets Move! Campaign started by Michelle Obama back in 2010. We first featured an article in the beginning of March congratulating the schools on their recent awards and explaining exactly what the Healthier U.S. School Challenge was all about. The awards were presented to Chasco Elementary School (Silver), Fox Hollow Elementary School (Silver), New River Elementary School (Silver) & Thomas E. Weightman Middle School (Bronze). Representatives from both the federal and state level were in attendance and helped present the four schools with their awards and gifts. Brittany Grandy from the USDA Food & Nutrition Program, Corky Stern from the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services along with Julie Hedine, Director of Food & Nutrition services and Saybra Chapman, Clinical Coordinator of the EAP program all stood in front of the board members and gave a brief explanation of the the HUSSC initiative before calling the schools up to receive their awards.

Congratulations and thank you for all of the hard work, effort and commitment put into attaining these awards! You are awesome!
